CORDELE — Officials from the Cordele Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Americus are currently looking into the circumstances of a fatal shooting that took place in Cordele late Thursday night.

Mike Walsingham, the assistant special agent in charge at the GBI office in Americus, said the shooting was reported to have taken place at 306 S. 12th St at around 11 p.m. Tellis Fort, who lived at the address, was found dead outside the residence.

Walsingham said that both the GBI and Cordele P.D. officials were out at the scene, which included the victim’s car and residence, following the shooting. Interviews of those in the area were being conducted into Friday afternoon.

As of Friday afternoon, there had been no arrests made.

“We are not sure yet who may have been involved,” Walsingham said.

There are theories regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but that part remains under investigation also. “We are trying to keep an open mind,” Walsingham said.

Those with information on the crime are asked to call the CPD at (229) 273-3102.
