Five area players named to GSWA All-State football teams

Herald John Reynolds Player of the Year Justin Walker, who broke the state record for total passing yards in one game with 591 yards and threw for 3,331 yards for Lee County this season, ranking him 10th in the history of Georgia high school quarterbacks, was named to the Class AAAA Georgia Sportswriters Association’s second team all-state football team on Sunday.

Walker threw 39 touchdown passes and ran for two more while helping turn around a Lee County program that had won two games in the previous two seasons and had only five winning seasons until the Trojans went 7-4 this season.

Walker’s teammate, receiver Sanford Seay, who caught 68 passes for 1,105 yards and 15 touchdowns, also was named to the all-state second team.

The only area player to make the all-state first team was Miller County’s Juwan Jones, who was named to the defensive first team in Class A.

Jones, made 67 tackles, including six sacks and 16 for losses, and also ran two punts back for touchdowns and had a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Americus-Sumter, which finished second in the Region 1-AAA race to Cairo, had two players named to the Class AAA second team.

Offensive lineman Uniek Crumbly, who was the lead blocker for a team that rushed for more than 1,800 yards, and Kedrick Jones was named to the team as a return specialist. Jones, who gained 987 yards on 78 carries and rushed for 10 touchdowns, returned three kicks for touchdowns.
