Floyd and Kennedy Lead Patriots To Win Over Terrell County

ALBANY – On the strength of 25 points by Jordan Floyd and 24 by Andre Kennedy, the Westover Patriots came away with a hard-fought 72-63 win over Terrell County.
“We just wanted to bounce back from the Monroe game. We just wanted to come out and play well, play hard and give the home crowd something to cheer about”, Westover Head Coach Derik Pace said. Coach Pace was referring to the 62-38 drubbing Westover took at the hands of Monroe last Saturday night at Darton College.
The first quarter was hotly contested with both teams tied 9-9 before Jartavian scored to give the Patriots a 2 point lesd. From then on, Westover went on 10-2 run to cose out the first quarter with a 21-11 lead.
The Green Waves cut the lead to 24-20 in thre second quarter on a three pointer by Jamaal Thompson. Thompson hit another three pointer to cut the Patriots lead to 26-25 with just under three minutes to go in the half. However, Andre Kennedy scored, was fouled and completed the three point playgiving the Patriots a 31-27 lead. Jaamal Thompson hit another three pointer to keep the Green Waves within three points at 33-30. Westover closed out the first half with Rashaan Mathis hitting one of two free throws, giving Westover a 34-32 halftime lead.
Westover started the second half with a three pointer by Jordan Floyd. Floyd was fouled on the shot and sank the free throw, completing the four point play. Floyd scored five more points, including another three pointer, to increase Westover’s lead to 44-38 midway through the third quarter. With 28 seconds left in the third, Terrell County’s Montaio Dunning hit a three pointer to cut the Patriots’ lead to 53-50, but Andre Kennedy scored and completed a three-point play. The third quarter ended with Westover up 56-51.
Both teams came out ragged to start the fourth quarter, committing turnovers. Only one basket was scored between the two teams in the first two and a half minutes, and it was by Terrell County. Then Detravion Bishop scored on a slam dunk to cut Westover’s lead to 56-55 with five minutes to go in the game. Then Westover went on an 8-0 run before Dentravious Huckaby drove through the lane and scored, cutting the Patriots lead to 63-57.
Floyd hit another three pointer to extend Westover’s lead to eight. Terrell County was able to cut the lead to six, but that was as close as they would get in the last minute as Westover went on to win 72-63.
Detravious Bishop led the Green Waves in scoring with 19 points and Jamaal Thompson chipped in 14 in a losing cause.
