ALBANY — Christopher Glenn Pike, a former Albany city commissioner, was arrested early Tuesday morning at a south Albany address and charged with criminal trespass, police officials say.
Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. A. Fletcher and other officers of the Albany Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress at a residence on the 2500 block of Habersham Road, Fletcher said in a report. Fletcher stated that upon arrival he noticed damage to a window pane on the back door of the residence, which was locked. The window also looked like it had been pushed in, Fletcher said.
According to Fletcher’s report, when the police knocked on the front door of the residence, Pike came to the door to speak with them. Pike told the officers the damage was “old,” Fletcher said. When asked, the former commissioner told them that he was not the homeowner, even though he stayed at the address “from time to time,” the report said.
The owner of the residence, Leshunda King, arrived soon afterward, Fletcher stated, and told police that Pike was not welcome at the residence. According to Fletcher’s report, King stated that the back window to her residence was pushed in further than it had been previously, and that Pike did not have a key to her home.
At King’s insistence and because of the damage to the rear window, Pike was charged with criminal trespass and taken to the Dougherty County Jail, Fletcher said in his report. According to Fletcher, a criminal trespass warning was also issued to Pike to not return to King’s residence. A weekly report from the Dougherty County Jail stated that Pike was released under a $1,000 bond.
In November, Pike was defeated in his re-election bid for the Ward III City Commission seat by Albany businesswoman B.J. Fletcher.
