Former owner of downtown Albany landmark dies

ALBANY — The owner of a popular downtown bar, frequented by Albany’s power players in the 1960’s and ’70’s, has died.
Madeleine Lisenbee died Jan. 25 and was buried Saturday, according to her obituary.
Lisenbee was the namesake of Madeleine’s, a bar located in the bottom of what was then the Hotel Gordon.
Originally born in Dijon, France, Lisenbee immigrated to the United States from London in 1959. Following the death of her husband in 1961, Lisenbee briefly returned to France before permanently relocating in Albany.
Madeleine’s was a frequent hangout of city and state officials and a variety of local business leaders, including former Albany Herald publisher and Albany mayor James Gray.
