FREDDIE POWELL SIMS: Roger Marietta is a champion for Ward 4 and Albany

The political season, believe it or not, never ends! For those individuals that truly invest in serving their constituents, it is pretty much routine, yet gratifying. One such political icon is Commissioner Roger Marietta, who is a champion for his Ward as well as Albany/Dougherty County.

As citizens of Albany/Dougherty County, what we don’t see is a dedicated “servant” who, long after normal working hours, continues to work for solutions to create a safe economically inviting environment for his Ward. Roger Marietta has given up precious family time to advocate on behalf of the citizens in his Ward. I have worked with him for many years and find his approach to governing much like my own — fair, balanced and “servant leadership.” He also knows that good governance comes with shared responsibilities.

Roger and I have shared countless hours discussing and planning the future of our young people in this region through the Career Academy approach. Roger Marietta has shown that he is a dedicated “bridge builder.” In order for Southwest Georgia to become relevant in the State of Georgia, for our economy to continue its growth, more “bridge builders” are needed in Albany/Dougherty County.
