SASSER — The family of a high school senior in Southwest Georgia battling brain cancer is in need of financial help, and friends are are hoping a fundraiser this weekend will help.

A “Circle of Love” benefit is planned at Sasser Flea Market’s band stand, located at 8109 Albany Highway in Sasser, from noon-11 p.m. Saturday for Brianna Layton, a senior at Baconton Community Charter School. She currently is under treatment for brain cancer.

Layton was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. Most of the tumor was surgically removed last month, but it was classified as malignant, so she is in need of further treatments.

Ricky Marshall, a spokesman for the event, said several bands, and “CJ The DJ,” will be there while T-shirts, bracelets and food will be for sale. The entertainment lineup is expected to include Megan Fowler, Hatcher Station, Anna Beth Ward, Derailed, The Mike Dehamer Band and Bridges Crossroad.

There are several auction items that have been donated — including deer processing services, lawn care services, cakes, pies, paintings and guitars.

Mike’s Country Store, Atlas Fence Company, Bennett Feed and Seed, Mark’s Greenhouses, A-1 Pools and A-1 Brantley Septic Services are among the businesses, along with three cooking teams, have pitched in to help, Marshall said.

Marshall added that live music is expected throughout the event. The silent auction will close at 5 p.m.

All the proceeds will go to Layton’s family. There is no admission charge for the event, but an offering box will be at the front gate for those wishing to make donations. Chairs and coolers are welcome, but glass bottles are not, Marshall said.
