Fundraisers scheduled for Leesburg woman facing end-stage liver disease

LEESBURG — Leesburg resident Wendy Watson Hollomon, 50, has been battling end-stage liver disease since 2006.
In the last month, she has experienced acute liver failure affecting her heart, lungs and kidneys. She has spent weeks in a Jacksonville hospital and is currently on the active transplant list at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Family and friends have planned several fundraisers to help Hollomon with her medical costs.
Thursday, Austin’s Firegrill and Oyster Bar will be donate a percentage of all proceeds toward the “Wishes for Wendy” fund. The event begins at 5 p.m. and items will be up for grabs in a raffle drawing as well.
On June 14, the “Wishes for Wendy” co-ed softball tournament will take place at the Lee County Softball Complex. Teams must register by June 9. The entry fee is $200 per team. For more information, contact Destiny Parsons at (229) 733-9918.
For those who don’t play softball, a “Walk for Wendy” will be hosted at the Lee County Softball Complex track. The entry fee is $10 per person. Kids under 12 may walk with a small donation. Participants are welcome any time from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The person who walks the most laps within his or her age group will win a prize. A silent auction with various items and services will also be taking place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Individuals and businesses are welcome to donate a product or service; for more information, contact Marlee Hollomon at (229) 733-0582.
Private donations are accepted at Lee County Farm Bureau, at Walden and Kirkland in care of Lauren Walden Watson, and at Colony Bank in care of Lisa Cannon.
Hollomon is a former insurance agent at Lee County Farm Bureau. She is married to Gene Hollomon and has three daughters, ages 25, 22, and 13. She also has a 22-month-old grandchild.
