ALBANY — Maybe the hottest ticket in town is not for a concert or performance but for an eight-week course on how city government works.

That could be the case as the fourth class for the city of Albany’s Government 101 course filled within a day of the opening of the application period.

Registration opened on 10 a.m. on Wednesday, and the 20 available slots were quickly gobbled up.

“It filled up in less than 24 hours,” Albany Public Information Officer Krista Monk said in a text response to a query about the number of slots still available on Thursday. “I was shocked when I came in this morning.”

During the course, participants learn how various departments operate and what services they provide to residents. The number of class members is limited to ensure there is time for question-and-answer sessions after presentations.

There is no charge for the course, but participants are required to attend at least six of the sessions or risk being removed from the rolls.
