ALBANY — Interim City Manager Tom Berry confirmed this afternoon that city Transit Director David Hamilton will be named the city’s transportation manager, a position that will place him in charge of transit and the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.

“Of course, he will be named interim manager so that the City Commission can look into the recommendation,” Berry said. “But as transportation director, he will oversee the city’s transit system and the airport. David has proven himself and will, I think, do well in the position.”

The newly created position allows the city to promote internally after the resignation Monday of Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Director Yvette Aehle, who will start her new position as deputy director of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater (Florida) International Airport March 30.

Berry met with the Albany-Dougherty Aviation Commission Monday to discuss Aehle’s replacement.

“David will probably have an office at the airport,” the city manager said. “And we may need to bring on another employee to assist him with the transit side.”
