CAMILLA — Mitchell County High School offensive lineman Darrius Hicks doesn’t want to hear any excuses from the football team’s skill players this season.

“We’re probably averaging about 320 across the (offensive) front,” said the 6-foot-4, 340-pound Hicks, who at right guard is one of four returning starters on the offensive line. “As long as we block right, we should be able to get some yards.”

Hicks isn’t even the biggest. Sophomore right tackle Rondarrius Williams is 6-3, 370 pounds. He will be joined by seniors Jordan Williams (6-1, 245) and Quintin Sanders (6-2, 270) at center and left guard respectively.

The Eagles lost one starter on the offensive line. While Mitchell will be breaking in a new quarterback, coach Larry Cornelius believes the blocks are in place for the team to have its best season yet. Cornelius, in his fourth season, has guided the Eagles to two straight appearances in the Georgia High School Association Class A public school football playoffs.
