SYLVESTER — Worth County head football coach Jason Tone believes that he, his staff and his players have worked hard over the years to raise the standard for the program.
This year, the Rams look to raise that standard even higher and try and claim a spot as top dog in the Region 1-AAAA race.
Worth County won its subregion last season, then lost to Cairo in the region championship game.

Right tackle Jecard Parker, one of 16 seniors on the team this year, believes that they had a great opportunity last season before coming up short against Baldwin in the first round of the playoffs. Parker said “what’s done is done” and all they can do is focus on this season and work to make it back to region title game.
“[We just need] more training, like we’re getting now at practice and a better tempo and we’ll be at the top,” he said.
He believes the team’s speed, strength and discipline will serve them well as they try and go deeper into the playoffs. Two of the three qualities were on full display last week as the Rams had their first scrimmage of the season against Cook. While Tone liked a lot of things he saw, he said the scrimmage showed him they have a lot of work to do.
“We played well at times, ran the ball well at certain points,” he said. “Anytime you score 34 points you gotta be happy, but I feel like we ended real sloppy. We had several fumbled snaps, a turnover in the second half, it was just one of those things where you didn’t finish where you wanted to.”
