Jacksonville Jaguars sign former Westover standout Rashad Greene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with fifth-round wide receiver Rashad Greene.
The former Westover High School and Florida State standout’s contract as the 139th overall pick carries a signing bonus slot of $243,816 and a first-year salary cap figure of $495,954, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Greene’s signing means that Jacksonville has just two of their eight draft picks unsigned — former Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon and third-round pick A.J. McCann.
When the Jaguars drafted safety James Sample in the fourth round on May 2, it was assumed their search for a receiver wouldn’t include Greene, who was projected to go in rounds 3-4. But Greene remained on the board and the Jaguars hope they’ve found their new slot receiver and maybe punt returner.
“It really is a dream come true,” Greene said in a statement released by the team. “This is something that I’ve worked so hard for and to see it become a reality is really a blessing. God has put me in an incredible position and my family has supported me throughout this entire journey. That being said, this is only the beginning. I have a lot of work to do and I can’t wait to get to work.”
In 51 games for Florida State, Greene had a school record 270 catches. He totaled 3,830 yards receiving and caught 29 touchdown passes. He also returned 38 punts for a 12.2-yard average and two touchdowns.
Greene showed flashes during the Jaguars’ rookie camp earlier this month and will be on the field with the veterans for the start of OTAs on May 26.
“It was a great experience to get out on the field with my teammates [for rookie camp],” Greene said. “I can’t wait for OTAs to start up next week and get better.”
In addition to the contract, Greene has a new jersey number. He wore No. 1 during rookie camp but is now listed as No. 13.
