The award is given to the outstanding conservationists in the surrounding counties that represent the Lower Chattahoochee River Soil & Water Conservation District.
Jenny Crisp and Grey Moss Plantation have been selected as Lee County’s 2023 Conservationist of the Year.
Supervisor Jimmy Bramblett of Stewart County presided over the evening program, which was held at Goolsby Farm Supply in Dawson.
The Green Family originally owned Grey Moss. It was purchased by Charles F. Crisp. His son Charles R. Crisp inherited the property from his father. Grey Moss is currently owned by Jenny Crisp. Grey Moss Plantation is in north Lee County and contains 2,004 acres.
With the time to regenerate the timber on the property approaching, Crisp’s goal is to create seed tree population naturally. Additionally, she will increase the number of wildlife food plots to provide for the abundant wildlife on the property.
Crisp said her goal is to achieve 100 acres in food plots to ensure the wildlife has abundant food sources, both natural and man-made, to help natural growth of the wildlife and prevent diseases. Her approach to managing Grey Moss is to employ good management practices by balancing the income producing with the overall health of the natural resources on the property.
