Judge John Salter pleaded with Dougherty County Commission Finance Committee to not furlough his employees in the upcoming budget.

County leaders are considering 12 unpaid furlough days beginning July 1 for most employees.

Salter said he is required by law to keep court open five days per week and would have to violate state law if he cut a week short.

He offered to find ways to save money beside the furloughs, even if those efforts “cost me my job at the next election.”
