Latin music focus of symphony concert

ALBANY — The Albany Symphony Orchestra will head south of the border this weekend for its presentation of “Colorful Latin America.”
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Municipal Auditorium.
Tickets are $35-$38 for adults, $30-$33 for senior citizens and the military, and $8 for students. They will be available in advance and at the door.
The concert will be preceded by “Conversations with the Conductor” at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free for those attending the performance.
The evening will feature guest conductor and Brazilian Maestro Manfredo Schmiedt leading a variety of compositions by well-known Latin composers and selections from “West Side Story.”
Saturday’s compositions to be performed will include Antonio Carlos Gomes’ “Sinfonia” from “Il Guarany,” Heitor Villa-Lobos’ “Bachianas brasileira No. 2” and Alberto Ginastera’s “Pampeana No. 3.”
The performance is the Albany Symphony’s second stop in its presentation of “Musical Destinations” for its 46th season.
