Lee County wrestlers win in Tifton

The Lee County wrestling team traveled to Tifton to participate in the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday. A total of 15 teams were in attendance including all of the Trojans’ Region 1-AAAAAA opponents.

Lee wrestlers finished first as a team with 100.5 points. Valdosta was second (86.5), Tift County was third (77) and Lowndes was fourth with 66 points. The Trojans had 11 of their 13 wrestlers finish in the top four.

Several of Lee’s wrestlers stood out. Aaron Maxfield, wrestling at 106 poiunds, defeated Valdosta’s Cameron Warren for first. Other tournament champions include Opie Hunter over T. Walton of Valdosta by pin, Slater Cruz defeated T. McCray of Colquitt 13-6, Jonah Anderson improved his record to 20-0 by pinning his way through the tournament including a pin over J. Rodriquez of Tift Co. in the 145-pound championship finals.

Brett Butler defeated #2 seed R. Schemmel of Tift Co. to take first and improve his record to 19-1. Collins Tensley defeated D. Hard of Lowndes to claim the 220-pound title.

Sophomore Aaron Lloyd, in his first varsity start, battled his way into the finals but fell short to finish second. Senior, Cody Bryant lost a disappointing match in the quarter finals but soundly defeated his Tift Co. opponent for a third-place finish. Freshman Sylvester Jackson finished third, while junior Cameron Daniels finished fourth.

Lee County wrestled Colquitt County and Warner Robins in a late match on Tuesday.
