LEESBURG — After serving 13 years Lee County school superintendent, Larry Walters confirmed Tuesday he will retire effective July 1.
“Somebody once told be that when it’s time to retire, you will know it,” Walters said. “I’m going to miss all the people I have worked with here, but it’s time to move on. I want to stress that I’ve got no problems with the School Board, they have been a wonderful board to work with.
“I’ve also told them that I would stick around for a month or so to help them through the transition of finding a new superintendent.”
Walters, a native of Ohio, has spent 20 years in education in Alabama and Georgia. He said he has no immediate plans for the future.
“I don’t know what I’ll do,” Walters said. “You know, the usual — travel and spending more time with my family. My mother still lives here. I won’t be going away anytime soon.”
