Lee student wins top UGA honors

LEESBURG — Jordyn Cox, summa cum laude graduate of Darton State College, has been presented the Georgia Presidential Award of Excellence University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead at a special awards ceremony honoring less than 1 percent of the graduating class from each college that makes up UGA.

Cox is one of three recipients from more than 4,300 students in the UGA College of Education. Morehead said she was selected based upon her academic credentials and her contributions as a member of her class. During her college tenure, Cox has been inducted into the following Honor Societies: Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Epsilon, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is a past President of the Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators.

Cox was awarded the following scholarships: Jim Mann Scholarship, George R. Gilmer Scholarship, Paul Tappan Harwell Scholarship, Del Jones Memorial Scholarship, Mary Murphy Robinson, and the Rachel Sibley Sutton Scholarship. Also, she is the president-elect of the UGA Chapter of Kappa Delta Epsilon, the honor society for the College of Education. Upon completion of her student teaching in December, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, and she hopes to teach in the Lee County school system.

Cox is the daughter of Amber Cox of Leesburg and Jimmy Cox of Albany. She is the granddaughter of Charles and Shirley Stiles of Leesburg and Wiley and Feby Cox of Albany.
