LEESBURG – The city of Leesburg will celebrate its 150th anniversary Saturday.

The community is invited to Leesburg’s downtown, in front of the courthouse at 100 Leslie Highway, for a night of music and food.

At 5 p.m., Loraine & the Jammers, an Albany-based band, will open the night. At 7 p.m. the Kinchafoonee Cowboys will take the stage. The group grew up in the Albany/Leesburg area and chose its name as a tribute for the Kinchafoonee Creek that runs through Lee County.

Food, beer and wine will be served. Organizers recommend bringing your own lawn chairs. Coolers are not permitted.

Leesburg was originally founded as Wooten Station in 1870 as the Central of Georgia Railway moved into the area. In 1874, the town was incorporated and renamed Leesburg.

It’s the hometown of several notable figures, including country music star Luke Bryan, “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips and Miss Georgia 2013 Carly Mathis.

Those wanting more information on how to join in on the fun can call (229) 759-2422.
