Peppermint Pops, Fine Art of Dining Culinary Series event set for this month

ALBANY — For those looking for entertainment in the Albany area, the Albany Area Arts Council is making sure the public is informed of opportunities for the remainder of the month.

Peppermint Pops, from the Albany Symphony Orchestra, have matinee and evening performances on Saturday at the Albany Municipal Auditorium located at 200 N. Jackson St. The instrument petting zoo is at 10 a.m., the matinee is at 11 a.m. and the evening performance is at 7:30 p.m.

“We would like to offer BOGO (buy one, get one free) tickets to the Peppermint Pops evening concert to those involved with the Hurricane Michael Response and Recovery effort as a small thank you for their dedication to keeping our community Albany Strong,” officials from the arts council said in a newsletter released Monday evening.

A longstanding favorite, Peppermint Pops features will familiar family favorites from the holiday season including Polar Express, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas along with the traditional and popular festive sing-alongs and seasonal favorites. “Felice Anno Nuovo” is set for 6 p.m. on Dec. 29 at the Albany Museum of Art, located at 311 Meadowlark Drive. Chef Laura Bernardi Piovesana, owner of Italian Wooden Spoon, will be planning and preparing an Italian dinner as part of the museum’s Fine Art of Dining Culinary Series.

The Albany Chorale’s “Holidays With The Chorale” will have two performances next week, at 7 p.m. on Monday at Leesburg United Methodist Church and 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 at First United Methodist Church. Tickets can be purchased from chorale members, Parker Music or at the door.

The Holiday pARTy will be hosting by the arts council and Albany Recreation and Parks from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday at its Carnegie Library Gallery at 215 N. Jackson St. Admission is free to the event, which will feature arts and crafts activities for both the young and the young at heart.

“Extra special touches for the day include the annual Dougherty County Elementary Art Exhibit and holiday decor styling by event designer Joy Reeves at Vintage South. We even heard that Santa Claus is planning to stop by following his visit to the ASO’s Peppermint Pops Matinee,” officials from the arts council said.
