ALBANY — The city of Albany is in search of vendors for its 28th annual Christmas Parade. What makes this year unique is that it’s the first year Albany will have a Christmas village on the day of the parade, Dec. 1, according to Parade Coordinator Lorie Farkas, who encouraged vendors to submit their applications promptly.
“The Christmas village will be open from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. that night,” Farkas said. “Pretoria Fields is participating. We currently have a lot of interest for food and arts and crafts vendors. What we need to do to make this an annual event is for people to go ahead and get their applications in.”
Vendor applications can be found on the city’s website. The vendor fee for arts and crafts vendors is $20. Farkas said that the city wants local artisans to have a chance to make a profit during the Christmas season. The fee for food vendors is $75. Additionally, food vendors are required to obtain a permit from the Dougherty County Environmental Health Department at 240 Pine Ave. a month in advance.
For individuals, groups, organizations or businesses interested in being a part of the parade, those applications are available on the city’s website as well.
“Anybody who wants to be in the actual parade needs to go ahead and get their applications in,” Farkas said. “The parade is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., but we have some room for anyone with a performance.”
Dancers and singers interested in performing during the 5-5:45 p.m. period before the parade can contact Farkas at (229) 347-0105.
The Christmas celebration will feature the annual Christmas tree lighting that the city will, according to Farkas, dedicate to either someone who has uplifted the community or someone who needs uplifting. The chosen person has not been announced at this time. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be on hand for the parade.
The deadline for applications will be on Nov. 23, the Friday after Thanksgiving. Farkas said that the parade is televised, and more than 20,000 people are expected to attend.
