ALBANY — The Albany Civil Air Patrol, as a way to interact with the community, is conducting a free car wash on Saturday at Gieryic’s Automotive Repair.
The car wash is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the repair shop, which is located at 2401 Dawson Road. The Civil Air Patrol is involved in community support in ways such as disaster relief, search and rescue and other programs, Greg Frich, the commander of Albany’s CAP squadron, said.
While the car wash is free, donations are welcome and will aid CAP with its disaster relief and search and rescue operations within the community.
“If you’ve got a car that gets dirty during the rain, we’ll wash it up,” Frich said.
He extended a special thank you to Tom Gieryic, the shop’s owner, for allowing CAP to use his facilities on Saturday. The car wash was planned four weeks ago, but due to Hurricane Michael’s disaster relief, the event was delayed.
The squadron’s commander said the car wash is a way for CAP to get out into the community as well as show off its cadets. The cadet program hosts youth from ages 12 to 21, and those youth are a part of search and rescue operations.
“We’re into community service,” he said. “A great way to serve your community is by washing cars. We’re very thankful to be part of a great community here in Albany. It’s a wonderful place to live and a wonderful place to serve.”
