Albany Fire Department responds to a reported cooking fire at Shadowood Apartments early Wednesday

ALBANY — Cooking food left unattended caused an Albany apartment to catch fire early Wednesday morning, officials from the Albany Fire Department said.
According to a report from the AFD, a resident living on the second floor at the Shadowood Apartments on the 2400 block of Brierwood Drive fell asleep while cooking hot dogs, causing a kitchen fire.
The occupants woke to a “smoke filled home,” and the fire department was alerted at 12:32 a.m., the report said.
The report also said that moderate smoke was visible from the outside of the apartment, and that the rest of the building was evacuated. Occupants included two adults and a child who were displaced, but there were no injuries sustained.
The fire department estimated the property loss at $30,000, and $10,000 in content loss. The fire was labeled in the report as unintentional.
