Albany man dies after motorized wheelchair collides with mail carrier
Albany police said Glenn Osborne Kelley, 55, was fatally injured in Thursday evening collision
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — A man died Thursday evening after the motorized wheelchair he was riding in collided with a mail carrier on East Broad Avenue, officials with the Albany Police Department said.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said Glenn Osborne Kelley, 55, was traveling east on his Elite SS motorized wheelchair on East Broad in the westbound lane, while William Childs, 50, was driving a Gruman LLV mail carrier traveling west on West Broad. A witness was traveling west on West Broad behind Childs.
Banks said the wheelchair and mail carrier collided head-on on the 600 block of East Broad, and Kelley was fatally injured. Childs, who was not injured, said he did not see Kelley until the crash occurred.
There were no signs of impairment. No charges will be filed since Kelley caused the crash by driving on the wrong side of the road, Banks said.
