ALBANY — The Albany Police Department responded to an aggravated assault report in the early morning hours of Wednesday, reports from the law enforcement agency show.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said the incident is reported to have taken place at the R&R Plaza at 2034 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at 1:30 a.m.

Banks said officers responded to the aggravated assault report at the location. Upon arrival, the victims said a man walked up and someone started shooting. One victim said that, when she heard the shots, she ran and hid behind a shelf.

Another victim, an employee, said the man ordered a soda, and when the victim went to go get it out the cooler he noticed the man looking around. The employee said that when he got back to the counter to cash the man out, he heard shots coming from close range, Banks said.

The employee also stated that the shots came from a silver vehicle, and that after the shooting, the female victim and suspects were gone. There were no other witnesses, Banks said.

Banks said the case remains active.
