Albany Social Security office relocating to West Third Avenue

ALBANY — The Social Security Administration office in Albany will be operating out of a new location, effective Monday.

The office, currently at 235 W. Roosevelt Ave., Suite 500, is relocating to 1522 W. Third Ave. Officials said the new location is meant to offer new and improved interviewing stations, an expanded reception area, suitable parking space and easy access to public transportation.

Officials said most Social Security business can also be handled through the socialsecurity.gov website. Some of the services available on the site include applying for benefits; creating an online Social Security account to obtain a proof of income letter, check benefits and payment information, change address and phone number, start or change direct deposit of benefit payments, get a replacement Medicare card or get a Form 1099; and applying for extra help with Medicare prescription drug costs.

Anyone with questions can contact Social Security’s toll-free service at 1-800-772-1213, or 1-800-325-0778 for those using a text-telephone device. The Albany office will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesday.
