Albany State University football coach Gabe Giardina accepts position at Charleston Southern University
ALBANY — On Wednesday, November 30 Albany State University Athletics announced a nation-wide search for a permanent head football coach.
After five years with the program, Gabe Giardina (Coach G.) will transition to Head Football Coach at NCAA Division I Charleston Southern University.
During his tenure, Giardina achieved an overall record of 37-17. He led the Rams to a 2021 SIAC Championship win and an NCAA Division II playoff appearance.
“Coach G. has been an outstanding leader of our football program. We appreciate all he has done to build on the great tradition of ASU Football and the relationships he developed with our student-athletes and alumni”, said Tony Duckworth, Director of Athletics.
Albany State University President Dr. Marion Ross also offered remarks stating “the passion that he and his family have, not only for football, but the success of our students, is beyond compare. They have left their mark on our institution and will always be valued members of the Ramily.”
As the Rams begin preparation for the coming season, veteran ASU Assistant Coach, former student-athlete and ASU alum, Anthony Kelly will serve as the Interim Head Football Coach.
