ALBANY — Debra T. Wiley, an assistant professor in the Albany State University College of Education, recently graduated from the 2016 Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Denver Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration.

The institute was held at the University of Denver.

The HERS Denver Summer Institute is an intensive, two-week residential program at which participants gain the knowledge, skills and perspectives needed for advancing as leaders across all institutional types.

Wiley, along with 62 female leaders from institutions across the nation, attended the summer program. The sessions included “Managing and Leading Change: Your Role in Re-inventing Higher Education,” “New Partnerships & New Pathways, Leaning into Turbulent Times” and “Exploring Inclusive Excellence and Reframing: Work-Life to Living Well.”

“The HERS Institute experience was a rewarding and rigorously challenging experience for which I am grateful to have been selected as a participant,” Wiley said. “The enhancement of my leadership skills and professional network are two tremendous benefits of the two weeks of intense twelve-hour days.”

For more than 40 years, HERS has prepared women faculty and administrators for leadership roles in higher education. At one of the three HERS Institutes – HERS Denver, HERS Bryn Mawr and HERS Wellesley – participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to lead change on their campus and positively impact higher education.

Wiley earned a bachelor’s degree from Albany State and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Cincinnati.
