Albany stores not on initial Sears closing list

Sears Holdings Corp. has included six Georgia stores — one Sears and five Kmarts — in its initial list of 79 stores that it plans to close.

None of the stores are located in Albany, which has both a Sears and a Kmart.

Sears says it will close its store at the Macon mall, one of dozens of stores the company says it will close as a result of poor holiday sales.

Sears says it’s also closing Kmarts in Buford, Columbus, Douglasville, Jonesboro and southwest Atlanta.

The company said earlier this week that it would close up to 120 stores around the country.
