ALBANY — Albany Technical College ranked third out of 51 schools statewide for the school’s associate of science in Nursing program by RegisteredNursing.org.

The college formally recognized on Tuesday five program instructors for their efforts in making the nursing program one of the best in the state. Among those honored were Melissa Williams, Annette Holloway, Beverly Grimsley, Latrona Lanier and Mary Ford, who could not be present at the ceremony.

In 2013, Albany Tech began its RN program with only 24 students. Those students graduated in 2015 with a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing. The program has since expanded with added faculty and a total of 56 students currently enrolled.

RegisteredNursing.org collected the NCLEX-RN pass rates data and information for five years from schools all over the country for the organization’s evaluations. Albany Technical College was one of two technical schools in the state to be placed in the top three.

“To be ranked as the No. 3 Nursing program in the state of Georgia is truly an honor,” Lanier, chairwoman of the ASN Program at Albany Tech, said. “We are aware that earning a distinction of this magnitude stems from hard work and dedication on the part of our faculty and administration, as well as the desire of our students to become health care professionals.”

Lanier said that she attributes the achievement to the school’s faculty, which motivates the students, who are eager to learn. Lanier said that the faculty provides individualized student learning in the school’s nursing program.

“Given the critical shortage of nurses in our region, state and nation, this ranking validates the good work Albany Tech is doing in this area,” ATC President Anthony Parker said. “Graduating qualified health care professionals and having them go to work here is critical to the health and economic vitality of our community. We have to continue to be responsive to community needs so that we carry out our mission to prepare individuals to join the region’s work force.”
