Albany Technical College to hold GOAL, Rick Perkins awards ceremony

ALBANY — Albany Technical College will hold its annual Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership and the Rick Perkins, or Instructor of the Year, award ceremony and reception this evening.

Albany Tech officials said the final four GOAL nominees will be announced at the ceremony. An Albany Area Chamber of Commerce panel will interview the remaining nominees in January, and one of the nominees will be selected to compete at the state GOAL competition held in Atlanta in April.

The eight GOAL nominees are:

— Kimberly Adams, dental assisting;

— Sarah Braziel, dental assisting;

— Cameron Fountain, dental assisting;

— John Hudgens Jr., electrical and computer engineering;

— Ebony Johnson, carpentry;

— Charlie Roberts, law enforcement technology;

— Matthew Scruggs, culinary arts;

— Tracy Taylor, fire science technology.

Officials said the state winner will become the spokesperson for technical education in Georgia for 2019.

The Albany Tech winner will be announced in January by the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce at a monthly Albany Rotary Club meeting, and will also compete at the GOAL regional competition for the Technical College System of Georgia southern region at Southern Regional Tech’s Tifton campus.

The Rick Perkins Award nominees include:

— Matthew Beard, culinary arts;

— Tomekia Cooper, general core;

— Lori Day, surgical technology;

— Nicole Lane, business management.

All Rick Perkins nominees will be honored at the ceremony, and the finalist will be named that evening. The event will take place in the Logistics Education Center auditorium on the Albany Tech campus.
