Albany to host ‘Back the Blue’ basketball tournament

ALBANY — Albany Recreation and Parks has announced that a basketball tournament this weekend will be latest in a series of “Back the Blue” events.

City of Albany officials are encouraging the public to come out at 3 p.m. on Sunday to the “Back the Blue: Breast Cancer Awareness Basketball Tournament.” Games will feature personnel from the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Dougherty County Juvenile Court, Department of Community Supervision and the Lockett Station Warriors.

The event will be held at the Lockett Station Community Center at 324 Lockett Station Road, and admission is $1 per person at the door. Businessman Tom Gieryic, who spearheaded the local “Back the Blue” campaign as a way for the community to show its support for Albany area law enforcement officers, will be special guest at the tournament.
