Andersonville closes all but cemetery in government shutdown
National historic sites, museums impacted by government shutdown
From Staff Reports
ANDERSONVILLE — The ongoing partial government shutdown has affected the operations of national parks and museums around the country, including Andersonville National Historic Site.
Due to the lapse of appropriations during the shutdown of the federal government, national parks will continue to remain accessible to the public while adhering to all government shutdown laws and procedures. For Andersonville, this means that although the facilities and grounds of the historic site will close for the duration of the shutdown, the Andersonville National Cemetery will remain open.
The Andersonville National Cemetery grounds will be accessible to visitors, but emergency and rescue services will be limited. All park programs, included the ranger-guided prison tours, have been canceled.
Because of the government shutdown, there will be no National Park Service-provided visitor services at Andersonville, which includes public information, restrooms, trash collection, and maintenance of the roads and facilities.
NPS social media and websites are not currently being monitored or updated and will not be updated with national park information until the government is fully restored to normal functionality.
