Andersonville hosts POW lecture program

ANDERSONVILLE — Andersonville National Historic Site’s quarterly lecture series in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the national prisoner of war museum’s opening will continue on Saturday.

“Life as a WWI POW,” the second program in the series, will be presented by Jennifer Hopkins. Hopkins is a Park Guide at Andersonville National Historic Site and is knowledgeable about the the POW story. The program will start at 2:30 p.m. and will last until approximately 3:15-3:30 p.m. with time reserved for questions following the program.

In August, the lecture series will continue with stories related to women at Andersonville. The series will conclude in December with a discussion of “Galvanized Yankees and Rebels.” All three programs are free to the public and will take place in the National Prisoner of War Museum Theatre.

Andersonville National Historic Site is located 10 miles south of Oglethorpe and 10 miles northeast of Americus on Georgia Highway 49. Park grounds are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The National Prisoner of War Museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
