Benton appointed chancellor of theology school

ALBANY — Oscar Benton Jr. was be named chancellor of the first black Pentecostal Accredited School of Theology in southwest Georgia, the newly formed Kingdom Global Life Seminary, on Tuesday.

Benton earned a bachelor of arts degree in Pastoral Ministry, a master’s degree in Ministry and a doctorate in Theological Studies from Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary of Dothan, Ala. He also earned a doctorate in Philosophy from the B.C. Graham Theological Seminary. He has spent 42 years teaching and preaching the gospel and has worked in the this community for more than 20 years.

Benton’s work has allowed him to serve both across the country and internationally. He has established more than 25 churches in London, India, Panama and around the United States. He has also trained more than 50 pastors across the globe in pastoral teaching and leadership. In October of 2018, he will travel to Cuba, where he will teach and establish churches of Christ.

Steve Anderson, the CEO of the Transworld Accrediting Commission International, conducted Benton’s appointment. The TACI is an independent accrediting agency located in Riverside, Calif., that helps religious organizations obtain accreditation that is not government-affiliated. TACI member schools only accepts academic credit from other member schools, as long as the credit applies to their programs. The school offers a variety of certifications and courses from bachelor’s to doctorate degrees.

The accreditation and appointing of Benton took place at the Words of Restoration International Ministry, located at 501 Monroe Street in Albany.
