ALBANY — Zavian Simpson has been named Albany Technical College’s Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (G.O.A.L.) student of the year.
Simpson, an Electronics Technology major, was selected for the honor through a campuswide selection process. He, along with fellow standout students and educators, were recognized by the college Wednesday.
Tim Nelson, a Business Management instructor, was named the Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year; Malakai Jacobs, a standout student in adult education, was named the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (E.A.G.L.E.) student of the year; Patricia Pierce was recognized as the Adult Education Teacher of the year, and Admissions Assistant Gloria Gladden was named Staff Employee of the Year, an accolade unique to ATC.
Simpson is known for his academic rigor and leadership qualities, ATC officials said. He will represent Albany Tech in statewide G.O.A.L. competition in the spring.
Nelson was recognized for what school officials called his innovative teaching methods and dedication to technical education excellence, while Jacobs is noted on campus for his exceptional perseverance and academic achievement. Pierce was selected for recognition for her commitment to enhancing adult literacy and professional development, and Gladden was honored for her contributions to service excellence and innovation at Albany Tech.
“These awards embody the values of technical education at ATC,” officials at the college said in a news release. “The G.O.A.L. program identifies students who have not only achieved academic success but have also exemplified leadership. The Rick Perkins Award celebrates instructional excellence among the educators within the Technical College System of Georgia. The EAGLE Award and the AE Teacher of the Year highlight the transformative impact of adult education and literacy.
“The entire ATC community extends heart-felt congratulations to these individuals for their achievements. Their dedication to their fields has made a significant impact on our institution and serves as an inspiration to us all.”
