ALBANY — Deadlines for class registration and sports opportunities at the Albany Area YMCA are approaching, while the organization continues taking applicants for its after-school program.
A certification class for CPR, automated external defibrillators and first aid will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. YMCA officials said those taking the class can earn all three certifications in one day. The last day to register for the course is Wednesday.
For businesses and organizations wishing to take part, officials at the YMCA said there is on-site training available.
Meanwhile, registration will expire Feb. 25 for spring soccer and T-ball. Discounted early registration prices end today. Those interested can visit the YMCA website for details and registration forms, or stop by the branches at either 1701 Gillionville Road or 316 Robert B. Lee Drive in Leesburg.
The YMCA is also offering referee opportunities through March 17, or until all spots are filled, for those wishing to mentor youth as they develop skills and compete during spring soccer league play. Pay is included, and a background check is required. Interested parties should visit either the Gillionville or Lee County branches to register.
Registration is ongoing for the YMCA Active Afterschool and YMCA Inclusive Afterschool, the latter of which is catered to children with special needs. YMCA officials said children can learn and grow spirit, mind and body with homework help, sports, crafts, character education, friends and fun.
Snack and dinner are included, and pick-up from area schools meeting minimum requirements is also available. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
