ALBANY — A section of Cason Street will be closed temporarily due to railroad crossing improvements, officials with the city of Albany announced late Tuesday afternoon.

The Georgia & Florida Railroad crossing on Cason Street between East Waddell Avenue and Mitchell Avenue was closed down at 8 a.m. this morning. It will remain closed until work is completed on Friday.

“To ensure safety for the railroad work crews and expedite the implementation of the improvements, the entire roadway will be closed to traffic preventing all north-south travel on Cason Street in this area,” officials said. “During this time, motorists will need to plan their trip using alternate routes and expect increased travel times.”
