CORDELE — Steven Gautney, president and chief executive officer of Crisp Regional Health Services in Cordele, was installed as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Hospital Association.
He was installed at the association’s annual convention Nov. 10 in Atlanta. Gautney succeeds Candice Saunders, president and CEO of WellStar Health System in Marietta.
“It’s an honor to be asked to serve in this capacity,” said Gautney. “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for some time.
“This is a year and time in general of tremendous change in health care. I hope to lead in a way that keeps Georgia hospitals healthy in serving their communities. We have to find ways to preserve local hospitals and take care of the uninsured.”
Gautney has led Crisp Regional since 2010. He oversees operations of Crisp Regional, including its Level IV trauma center, as well as a home health program, a 143-bed nursing home, a retirement home, hospice and home care programs, a dialysis facility and rural health clinics in bordering areas. Prior to becoming president and CEO of Crisp Regional, he served in the same role at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega, Ala.
He also served in many administrative roles with the Birmingham Baptist Health System in Alabama.
Under Gautney’s leadership, Crisp Regional has worked to provide technologically-advanced health care to its community and surrounding areas — helping to keep pace with changing health care technology so that community residents can access premium health care close to home, officials with GHA said.
“Steve Gautney brings a wide array of health care experience and a great deal of knowledge to his new role as chairman,” said GHA President and CEO Earl Rogers. “He has an innate ability to anticipate changing health care trends and adapt accordingly. We look forward to his service.”
Gautney serves on the boards of several organizations, including Secure Health Plans of Georgia and the Cordele-Crisp County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Georgia Medicaid Financing Advisory Committee and the Georgia Board of Physician Workforce.
