ALBANY — The Dougherty County Commission has accepted three Violence Prevention Grants totaling $832,322.70 through the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget.

“The safety and well-being of our residents are of top importance, and we must continue to invest in effective ways to prevent violence and crime,” Dougherty County Police Chief Kenneth Johnson said. “The Community Violence Prevention Grants will provide our law enforcement officers with the necessary tools and support to better serve and protect the people of Dougherty County.”

The funding will be utilized to implement the creation of a Crime Suppression Unit that will be assigned to the Detective Division for the creation of a community organizer position whose primary responsibility will be developing and managing the education and collaborative efforts for DCPD and purchasing Crime Prevention Equipment to add to the department’s current operations to address the rise in gun violence.
