ALBANY — As Dougherty County commissioners were offered the opportunity to bring up new business at the end of Monday’s business meeting — as they are at each meeting — District 5 Commissioner Gloria Gaines took the opportunity to “spread some good news” for the State Highway 91 corridor in her district.

“Enterprise Car Rental is opening a regional staging center just north of Lily Pond Road on 91,” Gaines said. “I’ve been told they’ll have more than 400 cars on that site and expect to create at least eight or nine new jobs.

“I wanted to share that good news about something positive happening on that corridor and in District 5.”

Gaines also challenged the joint city/county Economic Development Commission to take a closer look at development opportunities on Highway 91, a corridor that she says is ready for economic expansion.

“I’d like to invite the members of the EDC to come out and take a look at that corridor again,” the District 5 commissioner said. “There are a lot of opportunities there, including that 84 acres of land (owned by the city of Albany) at the (Southwest Georgia Regional) airport.

“This is exactly the kind of expansion project we’ve been looking for to showcase what’s available on what is a very strategic corridor into our community.”

Enterprise is one of several car rental companies that has vehicles available for rent at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.
