ALBANY — The Southwest Health District reminds the community that back-to-school immunizations are available at all 14 health departments within the district during normal business hours.
Appointments can be made by contacting a local health department. Walk-ins will be accommodated but may experience a wait. Additional details regarding special immunization events can be found below.
The purpose of these clinics is to help families ensure their children are up to date with required and recommended vaccinations for the new school year.
Important Immunization Information
Required Vaccinations: Children attending any child care facility, pre-kindergarten, Head Start program, nursery, or school in Georgia are required to have a completed Form 3231 on file. This requirement applies to all public and private operations, educational programs, and institutions involved in the care, supervision, or instruction of children through grade 12. Certificates are required for all children.
Seventh-Grade Immunization Requirements: Children born on or after January 1, 2002, who are attending seventh grade, or new entrants into grades eight through twelve, must have received one dose of the Tdap vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine to fulfill immunization requirements.
Eleventh-Grade Immunization Requirements: Before starting the 2024-2025 school year, students entering or transferring into 11th grade will need proof of a meningococcal booster shot (MCV4), unless their first dose was received on or after their 16th birthday.
