ALBANY — Shivani Yadavalli, a senior at Deerfield-Windsor School, has been named a National Merit semifinalist.

Students selected as semifinalists are academically talented high school seniors who finished in roughly the top 1% of the students tested during their junior year, and these students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for finalist standing and some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships.

Out of more than 1.3 million high school juniors who entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT or the National Merit Qualifying Test, just 16,000 were named National Merit semifinalists. To be considered for a merit scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.

“We could not be more proud of Shivani and her hard work to prepare for this moment; it is much deserved,” Deerfield-Windsor Upper School Director Lindsey Kotter said.

Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program will be announced in February.
