Jaymi Roberts claims Miss Rhomanis Scholarship Pageant title

ALBANY — Sigma Rho Sorority Inc., Zeta Psi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Albany hosted the biennial Miss Rhomania Scholarship Pageant recently at the Albany State University West Campus.

The evening was filled with the presentation of the lovely contestants, live music by The Lavish Band, food and ended with the crowning of the next Junior Miss and Miss Rhomania 2023.

Contestants competed in three classifications, separated by age groups. The classes were Rhosebud’s, ages 4-6 years old; Junior Miss Rhomania, ages 7-12 years old; and Miss Rhomania, ages 13-18 years old. Eleven contestants participated in this year’s pageant.

The Rhosebud participants were Kyhoni Anderson and Oliva Flores. Junior Miss Rhomania contestants were Nh’Zaiya-Faith Anderson, Aubryn Lowery, Charlotte E. Towns and Carlee Monique Wiley. The Miss Rhomania contestants were Londyn Ameria Hart, Jaymi Roberts, Joylishia Toomer and T’Myriah Williams.

Roberts was crowned Miss Rhomania, and Carlee Monique Wiley was crowned Junior Miss Rhomania. Their reign will continue until 2025.

The local chapter also awarded sorority members and the community for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. LaShaunda Washington, the chapter’s first vice president, was awarded the “Sigma Woman of the Year 2023” award. Mattie Buchannon, who serves as the chapter’s financial secretary, was awarded the “Book Dedication Award.”

Patricia Thomas, who serves as the chapter’s program chairperson, was awarded the “B. Elizabeth Davis Distinguished Service Award.” The principal of Cooper-Carver Elementary School in Dawson, LaTosha Peters, received the “Community Service Award.”

Pageant committee co-chairs were Mary Watson-Jones and Polly Shelton-Roberts. Stephanie Hankerson is the chapter president.
