Teachers can become certified in three environmental ed curriculums
Staff Reports
TIFTON – Educators will have the opportunity to become certified in three different environmental education curriculums this month at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The museum will conduct Project WILD on June 20, Project WET on June 22 and Project Learning Tree on June 27.
“For an individual to receive one of these nationally known, award-winning curriculums, which is usually over 300-400 pages of course work, they must attend a six-hour minimum training,” Kelly Scott, ANR program specialist for the museum, said. “The training usually consists of various lessons from the book, as well as discussing methods of bringing environmental and natural resource education into the classroom.”
Museum officials say participants in each workshop will engage in hands-on activities designed for both formal areas, such as schools, and non-formal educational facilities, such as state parks, zoos and aquariums.
Once training is completed, the educators will receive pre-K-eighth-grade environmental activity guides for use in the field that are correlated to the national and state standards.
Project WILD will allow educators to become a Project WILD-certified educator. The workshop is geared to the area of wildlife management, including aquatic life. Lunch will be provided by Dave’s Bread and Coffee House. This workshop is sponsored by Georgia Project WILD.
Project WET will allow educators to become a certified Project WET educator. This workshop focuses on water management. Lunch will be served courtesy of Chicago’s Pizza. The workshop is sponsored by Georgia Project WET.
The final workshop, Project Learning Tree, is specific to the field of forestry. Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A. The workshop is sponsored by Project Learning Tree Georgia.
Each workshop will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at a cost of $25 each. The fee includes lunch and curriculum. Registration can be completed online at www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/1LKMef7T4j9eDf3t7eSd6xa7q. Museum officials note that space is limited for each workshop.
