Evelyn Hudson honored by ASU National Alumni Association
Organization surprises past president with lifetime membership designation
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — A group of Albany State University National Alumni Association members surprised past National President Evelyn R. Hudson last month by presenting her with a Life Membership Certificate, pin and other gifts.
Hudson, who served as ASU National Alumni Association president from 2000-2004, was instrumental in helping to increase membership every year, despite dealing with multiple health issues. ASU National Alumni members called Hudson a loyal and dedicated member of the association since graduating from Albany State at an early age. She led by example: Her daughter, son, son-in-law, and granddaughters have all graduated from ASU.
Hudson is famous for saying the words, “University, support and success each contain the letter ‘U’. We need ‘U’ in order to succeed. I am depending on ‘U’ to help make a difference. Can I count on ‘U’? If each of us in 2019 remembers the letter ‘U,’ then Albany State University and Albany State University National Alumni Association would indeed be bigger and better.”
It is that type of dedication that led current National Alumni Association President William Johnson, Past National President Joycia Ricks and National Alumni members Diane Frink Hallman and E. Charles Thomas to personally make the contribution to give Hudson lifetime membership status.
Other alumni attending the surprise presentation included the honoree’s daughter, Kaye Hudson McKendrick.
