PELHAM — Four graduating seniors received a total of $6,000 in scholarships from local ethanol plant Flint Hill Resources Camilla. Shykeiria Carter and Jamia Mobley from Mitchell County High School, Johnson Ngo from Pelham High School and Charlee Coker from Baconton Charter School were each awarded $1,500 “Discovery Scholarships.”
The one-time scholarship recognizes students’ academic success, entrepreneurial skills, demonstrated leadership ability and their intent to pursue careers in either STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – or agriculture. The winners can use their scholarship at any university, college or trade school of their choice.
“Access to a quality education is fundamental for helping grow the next generation of STEM and agricultural professionals,” Darrell Birck, vice president of operations at Flint Hills Resources, said. “We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of these high-achieving students with Discovery Scholarships and help them take the next steps in their professional development.”
Flint Hills Resources Biofuels & Ingredients has been awarding scholarships to high school students since 2012. So far, more than 130 students in Georgia, Iowa and Nebraska have received more than $200,000 in scholarships.
