GBI seeks help in identifying remains
Composite sketch shows what victim may have looked like
From Staff Reports
JACKSON – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Butts County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information on the identification of skeletal remains found in a soft-sided suitcase along Interstate 75 in Butts County in late 2017.
An anthropological examination found the remains to be an African-American female between 19-45 years old. The height of the unidentified female is between 5-feet and 5-feet-8. A well-healed fracture was found on the right leg directly at the ankle. The remains are further distinguished by a pronounced gap between the top two front teeth.
A composite sketch of what the female may look like based upon the skull structure was completed by the GBI forensic artist.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the GBI office in Milledgeville at (478) 445-4173, the Butts County Sheriff’s Office at (770) 775-8216, or via email at [email protected].
On Dec. 28, 2017, the GBI was requested by the Butts County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation.
Earlier on that date, a motorist searching for a lost item on the side of I-75 southbound, within a few miles of exit 201, located what turned out to be human skeletal remains. The remains were in a suitcase. It appeared that the suitcase had been at the location for some time and was not recently deposited.
The remains were sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.
