ASU plans Record Restriction Workshop

ALBANY — Persons whose criminal record is keeping them from getting a job are invited to a free Record Restriction Workshop at Albany State University Sept. 27.

Criminal records professional Evelyn Jones of Macon will conduct the workshop, which starts at 10 a.m. at the ASU Criminal Justice Building, Hartnett Hall, in Room 111.

Participants are urged to come early and bring copies of their criminal record for a limited number of on-the-spot consultations. To register, contact Albany Second Chance at (229) 883-3440 or ASU at (229) 430-4864.

Having a criminal record can impact an individual’s career, education, housing opportunities and family.

The workshop will be held at 504 College Drive.

Bread House, Vardo extend hours

ALBANY — The Bread House and Vardo will be open extra hours Sept. 29, offering patrons the opportunity to shop until they drop.

Hungry patrons may shop the Bread House for its newest delectables from 6:30-9:30 p.m., enjoy a cappuccino or wheatgrass shot, and chill out to the tunes of Durango Larry performing on the newly remodeled facility’s event center stage. The extended hours also provide opportunities to head upstairs to shop the Funky Boho Boutique, Vardo. Shoppers can find something for everyone at Vardo.

The Bread House and Vardo are located at 520 N. Jefferson St. in Albany.

Council on Aging celebrates Active Aging Week

ALBANY — The SOWEGA Council on Aging has a special week of activities planned for Active Aging Week, Sept. 25-Oct. 1.

Activities already scheduled include Tai Chi, chair fitness, line dancing, art classes, cooking classes, miniature golf, bowling trips and finishing with a “Walk in The Park,” 1/2-mile and 1-mile fun walks to be held at Riverfront Park in Albany.

The SOWEGA Council on Aging wellness program provides a variety of exercise and well-being programs throughout the year, including evidence-based programs such as Tai-Chi for Health, A Matter of Balance and Chronic Disease Self-Management programs.

Most programs are offered free or at a low cost for seniors ages 60-above.

Sporting Clay tourney to benefit Ronald McDonald House

FORSYTH — Ronald McDonald House Charities will hold its eleventh annual Sporting Clays Tournament Friday and Saturday at The Meadows Gun Club and Shooting School in Forsyth. Both days offer opportunities for sporting clay enthusiasts to compete for a worthwhile cause.

The event is sponsored by Parrish Construction Group and is supported by the Kids and Clays Foundation. Ronald McDonald House Charities and Kids & Clays Foundation are the official charities of the National Sporting Clays Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association, the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

“Over the last 11 years, this event has raised over $450,000 in support of families who are cared for by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia,” said RMHC President and CEO Bonnie Hopkins. “We cannot thank Parrish Construction Group enough for their generous presenting sponsorship and appreciate as well the support from the Kids & Clays Foundation.”

The tournament is a shotgun start format with flights beginning at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday and at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Individual registration for the tournament is $200 per day, or $275 for both days. Teams of four may enter for $800, and youth shooters may enter for $150. The event features prizes, prize drawings and giveaways valued at more than $35,000 and raises $50,000 each year for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center at Florida State University will host “The Price is Right Live” stage show April 8 at 7:30 p.m.
